these are only a few of many excellent appraisals for kasper bjørkes second album >standing on top of utopia< which was released in april last year and followed by strong singles and remixes from the album, most recently >heaven< with mixes by nicolas jaar, muzzle flash and prins thomas. with the >symptoms< ep we are happy to present an ep full of brandnew material. while we wait for kaspers next solo album, currently in production and set for a 2012 release, here is a treat of new and unreleased material for you! other than the rather vocal driven singles >young again<, >alcatraz< or >heaven< these four new instrumentals contain both slow disco vibes and rave style anthems. >symptoms< is a constantly moving, synth driven bastard, that provides a crunchy baseline and a wonderfully strange theme that is hard to get your head around. if this track was a movie, it would be x-rated and only shown after midnight - exactly around the time where you would drop this on the dancefloor and look forward to what happens. - initial pressing in coloured yellow vinyl!

the opening track from the debut simon baker album was always going to be a strong choice to be the first single. no pressure has received unanimous praise since the albums release and is back with new remixes by art department and simon himself. its rare to get great stand out vocal tracks that dont split opinion, but this seems to be one of them. its slick, deep house of the highest calibre with a stand out hooky vocal from debukas. art department, owners of ras number one track of 2010 drop a superb remix, adding new vocals and teasing debukas back into the mix for a pretty special, hypnotic workout. simons >upstate dub< mix finishes things off. it aims things directly at the dancefloor in his signature, deep and twisting style.

come end of may, dancefloors will be overdosing on awesome music. legendary dirty man housemeister will blow out his third mother-l fucking-p >music is awesome< for the wicked, and rave will reign again. but you can’t just stick your face out into this kind of quality noize - it would mini-melt right off, see!? so housemeister took instant classic electro anthem title track >music is awesome< to some players and friends and said >look boys, i m putting out a smaller dose upfront so nobody will die on the dancefloor, now who s gonna help me save some lives?< everybody was in on this ep effort, of course.

danish duo laid back made a most surprising comeback to the clubs in 2010 with >cocaine cool<. not that they had ever been really forgotten: their electro pop classic >white horse< remained a sure shot in clubs for the thirty years after its release 30 years back and a constant inspiration to boatload of diverse artists from techno to hip-hop. >cocaine cool< was recorded at the same session but the ironic vocals ridiculing label executives blowing up their frail ego with the chemical substance were deemed to risquee at that time, so the recording collected dust in some box until last year. bostons >soul clap< another duo hailed as one of the hotest things in clubland known for their eclectic funk-rooted taste. they opt for a cool sparser arrangement leaving out the “white horse -like chords. a loose, dry electro funk beat, hpynotic one-note synth, few dub effects and additional vocoder vocals do the trick bravorously. besides an instrumental version theres also a harder jacking dub take sounding like early chicago house edits. and while the boys are add it they also re-edited another huge one from laid back: >baker man< that managed the unlikely balancing act of not only hitting it bigtime in the charts but also in the emerging balearic scene. this 12 inch is cool in every which way!

when delorean toured with teengirl fantasy last spring they told us about a song that had really blown them away. when they shared it with us we understood why. it was called >cheaters< and sounded like an instant classic. very different to the trademark psychedelic jams of the duo, the song was homage to classic chicago house from a modern perspective. built around layers of blissful synths and borrowing the vocals of first committees >cheaters never win<, it had that kind of energy that we sometimes miss in contemporary dance music. later that summer, john talabot visited new york and became aware that the track was going to be released by true panther sounds only as part of the album >7am<. something sparked inside us. we felt it was not fair that such an incredible track had to share its vinyls grooves with other songs so we thought it would be nice to dedicate a full maxi side to it.

bullion announces his new single >magic was ruler<, for vinyl only release on 25th may 2011, featuring 3 full length version of track from his non-lp >you drive me to plastic< and one exclusive new composition. the title track is a sample-based tapestry, rich in jangly guitar chops and pert horns, it dances along with the merriment of a tropical beguine. >magic was ruler< is a crate-diggers journey to encompass all manner of musical styles from krautrock, leftfield disco, all the way through to afro inspired 70s electronics, and continuing on from 2009s >young heartache ep< (one handed records). the searching, syncopated track >you drive me to plastic< has all the dynamic of the non-lp with which it shares its name and new track >good news on her< has the pulsating verve of shep pettibone-era ny house, whilst packing bullions signature hip hop punch. >too right< completes the set, supported by benji b and gilles peterson in the uk.

for their new release, >with our heads in the clouds and our hearts in the fields<, these two have somehow gone back in time to capture the sound of glacial moving, dark cough syrup pop music. mr. wiltzie has manipulated his trademark stars of the lid sound of haunting ambience, deconstructing, and funneling it through the beautiful voice, and song compositions of chantal acda. together, sleepingdog have gently abducted these gaseous tones, and choruses of pacific tree frogs into some beautifully crafted melancholic orchestration that reminds us all that we exist in a world of strangers, drifting only two feet apart. >with our heads in the clouds and our hearts in the fields< is sleepingdogs third album after >naked in a clean bed< (zeal - 2006) and the critically acclaimed >polar life< (gizeh/zeal - 2008).
